Bill Gates donates $4.6 billion

The Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the richest person in the world, has donated $4.6 billion of Microsoft stock, which equals with 5% Microsoft shares. This is the biggest donation of his since 2000 and the biggest in the world this year.

According to the paper submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, Gates donated 64 million shares of Microsoft stock on June 6, which valued at $4.6 billion. Although there is no description of the donor, Gates have been put the majority of donation to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

This is the biggest Microsoft stock which Gates 2000 has donated since 2000. The 61-year-old Gates had donated $16 billion of Microsoft stock in 1999, and he made a donation of $5.1 billion in 2000. So this time’s donation is perhaps the biggest of his since the new century, and the biggest one in the world this year until now altogether.

Bill Gates or Microsoft spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

So here’s the question: who is the richest person in the world now? Does Gates still hold the title after he donated $4.6 billion? Or Jeff Bezos overcomes Bill Gates again? Looks like it will know until Forbes public their list next time.

Jeff Bezos, the Amazon’s founder and concurrent CEO, had overcome Gates still as the richest person on the planet earlier in the beginning of this month. Tragically, he only stayed in the first title for couple of hours, but who knows whether he will take the place back as the rising stock of Amazon. Let’s just wait and see.

Otherwise, do you want to know who had held the first title and how long did he/she holds the title in history with the statistics of Forbes? Click this story to learn more now.
