A customer who purchase a new iPhone are eligible to purchase AppleCare+ within one year, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. Previously the period for buying AppleCare+ was limited to 60 days since the purchase of iPhone.

MacRumours first reported the update that Apple quietly extended the AppleCare+ eligibility for iPhone from 60 days to one year. AppleCare+ can now be added to an iPhone as long as the device remains within its standard one-year limited warranty period. Later Fortunes confirmed the change with an Apple support representative.

The extension of Apple’s repair and warranty service can be verified by the Apple’s eligibility tool, though its information page has not been updated yet. Currently the change seems to only apply to the iPhone in the United States, which means the iPhones sold in U.S. within the past year are also qualified for the AppleCare +. As we checked, the “Eligible for AppleCare +” information did not appear for an iPhone in any other countries, or for an iPad or Apple Watch in United States or elsewhere.

AppleCare+ for iPhone is in line with AppleCare for Mac and Apple TV now, yet iPad, iPod Touch and Apple Watch customers still be restricted to purchase the warranties within 60 days from the original purchase date of the device. Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support. AppleCare+ costs $129 for iPhone 6s and newer and $99 for iPhone SE. The plan extends coverage to two years from the original purchase date, and adds two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a service fee of $29 for screen damage, or $99 for any other damage, plus applicable tax.

To check if your iPhone is eligible for the AppleCare +, go to the eligibility tool page and input your iPhone’s serial number. You will be able to see the “Eligible for AppleCare +” information on the page if your device is qualified for that.
