Apple 2017 Fall Event Review: iPhone X Released with Face ID

Last week in Tuesday morning September 12 local time, Apple has officially as expected announced its new 2017 iPhone lineup, at Apple Park. The company launched three new flagship iPhones (iPhone 8, Plus and iPhone X) as well as adjusted pricing for the entire product range. In addition to new iPhone lineup, Apple has also introduced other new products include the Apple Watch Series 3, a 4K Apple TV, and more.

The most expecting new product in the event is about the tenth anniversary gift—iPhone X of course, for half past of the year’s rumor, the Company had finally opened its secret veil. The most surprising technology in it is absolutely about the Face ID, which replaced the Home button as well as Touch ID, the former rumors come true in the last minute of Face ID finally came out, though there were news reported Apple was going to removed it Home button used in the original iPhone in such a long time since iPhone was born in Steve Jobs’ time.

iPhone X New Design, OLED Super Retina Display, Face ID

Edge-to-edge display

The iPhone X looks stunning, with an OLED display that stretches across the entire front of the phone for an edge-to-edge finish. Apple has called the display Super Retina, and it is 5.8in diagonally.

We had mentioned iPhone X adopted the full screen display just like Sumsang Note 8 in our former story, not a very surprise with that, iPhone was coming out with edge-to-edge display and together with OLED super retina display, but many users have complained the gap at the top of handset.

New Design

Except the edge-to-edge OLED display, iPhone X also uses glass front and back, stainless steel around edge, so the thickness is a little bit slightly larger than previous sixth and fifth generations.
The screen has a million-to-one contrast ratio and wide colour support, and there’s also HDR that supports Dolby Vision and HDR10. It’s finally a display that’ll be able to compete with rivals from the likes of Samsung and LG. Expect to be blown away by it.

Face ID

iPhone X is introduced new tech with Face ID to remove former old Home Button, and also facial recognition feature to replace touch ID. Face ID relies on the new True Depth camera system. This feature works even in the dark to unlock your iPhone. In terms of security, Touch ID has a 1 in 50,000 stat for security. Face ID beats that with 1 in a million. Face ID is used with Apple Pay and the new side button and in apps that already support Touch ID.

iPhone X Released with Face ID

Although failed for once in the conference live time, but Craig Federighi claim Face ID will work with most sunglasses, and can be instantly disabled after the conference, even in the dark to unlock your iPhone.

“With most, but not all,” he said. “Most sunglasses let through enough IR (Infra-red) light that Face ID can see your eyes even when the glasses appear to be opaque. It’s really amazing!”
